Touch Wing Rating System
The Wing Rating System was developed to help pilots determine
which wings are best for their needs. A typical "Star" rating
system one might find in the movie guide, for example, is a
measure of good or bad. However, the Wing Ratings are a comparison
tool, ranking products in special categories.
Stable
or responsive ,
which is right for you?
For example, the ParaToys is
a fairly stable glider and therefore received a for
Turning. For many beginners, a stable glider is desirable.
On the other hand, a glider with a for
Turning is in general not recommended for beginning pilots.
Fast or easy, which is
right for you?
Another example is the Action GT, super
fast and attracts
many experienced pilots. The fact that it doesn't launch as well as
the ParaToys glider doesn't
make the Action GT a bad glider.
Experienced pilots have the skills to launch
the Action GT, and can therefore take advance of other benefits
offered by the wing. However, beginners should consider an easier
launching glider like the easier launching yet slower ParaToys
glider.
Your first glider won't
be your last
Gliders don't last forever. Sunlight and general wear degrade the wing over time.
Eventually you will need to get a new glider.
Therefore, when you are just getting starting
in powered paragliding, start with a glider that is easy to launch.
Then when that wears out, and it will, that is the time to consider
getting a faster glider. And keep this in mind... speed is NOT
as important as most people think. |
